Structures for Trust: Individual and Social Levels of Analysis for Industry Collaborations

Given the rising levels of private funding for scientific research, the patterns of results (skewed towards funder preferences) in some fields, and the impracticality of relying solely on publicly funded science, solutions for how to structure collaborations with industry scientists are needed. This talk will argue that engagement in an ongoing forum is crucial for the development and assessment of research. Conditions for successful forums will be articulated, and illustrated with examples. The structure of these spaces can help make sure that our debates focus on what actually matters, in ways that encourage scientific integrity even across value-based disagreements.
