Tracing the Path of Justification for LCDMI examine the interdependency of theory and computer simulation for the Lambda-Cold Dark Matter (LCDM) model (considered our current best model for cosmology), as well as the extremely complex form of justification for LCDM at work in the astrophysics. This analysis draws attention to an important question: How ought we treat the intended purpose of LCDM, when it is used for prediction, explanation, and description? I argue that the implicit assumptions regarding the different purposes of LCDM require us to clarify the extent to which LCDM successfully describes certain aspects of the system’s behavior within a specified domain.
